What are the WA Screen Awards?

The WA Screen Awards is Perth’s premiere film and television event, celebrating the innovation and achievements of Western Australian filmmakers, from students through to established industry professionals.

The Awards aim to:

  • Promote the achievements of the WA Screen Industry
  • Encourage early career filmmakers
  • Connect filmmakers with an audience; and
  • Provide networking opportunities for members of the filmmaking community.

We present awards in 22 categories. The winners are chosen from over a hundred submissions each year. Early career and open categories are shortlisted to approximately five nominees that are promoted through screenings, press releases and on the WA Screen Awards website.

Who organises and supports the WA Screen Awards?

The WA Screen Awards are coordinated by the Film & Television Institute WA. 2010 sponsors include ScreenWest, Lotterywest, Central TAFE, Curtin University, Community News and RTRFM 92.1.

Who can enter the WA Screen Awards?

Entry is open to all filmmakers who are current residents of Western Australia. A Western Australian Resident is defined as someone who has been living in Western Australia for at least six months prior to submitting the application and is registered on the Western Australian electoral roll.

Early career awards are restricted to people who have 30 minutes or less commercial credits in their field.

Industry awards are restricted to people who make their primary source of income from the film & television industry and have produced long form projects (feature films, telefeatures, television series, mini-series or short run series) that have received a television broadcast, theatrical release or other kind of public broadcast in 2010.

How can I enter the 2011 WA Screen Awards?

Why is it more expensive to enter the Early Career Awards for Best Drama, Best Documentary and Best Tertiary?

Entering these categories automatically qualifies your production for the Early Career craft awards, provided your practitioners have less than 30 minutes of commercial credits in their particular field.

Where can I download the Industry Nomination Forms?

The Industry Nomination Forms will be emailed to you once you have entered through Withoutabox. If you haven’t received these within two days of entering, please email screenevents@fti.asn.au.

Who judges the WA Screen Awards?

Early Career and Open category awards are judged by Western Australian industry professionals.

Industry awards are judged by a panel convened by ScreenWest, consisting of a representative from each industry organisation as per their website.

Who can attend the WA Screen Awards?

The WA Screen Awards are open to anyone to attend.

Where do I buy tickets?

Ticketing information will be release on this website in early 2011.
